Campaign walkthrough for Dante’s Inferno (LC: Benn Sutton) 

This is one of the most elaborate campaigns I’ve seen for a video game since the Halo 3 campaign. If you know nothing about the game, check out the trailer here. It has been one of the most anticipated games to come out this year because based upon the literary classic The Devine Comedy and it’s just so gorgeous to look at.

The campaign was born out of a survey to find out what people generally knew about Dante’s inferno… which turned out to be very little. From there, the task was to educate people about the origins of Dante's Inferno and the nine levels of hell and the actual game took a bit of a side. They did it with a nine month long campaign with each month dedicated to a level of hell. Even if you only read the first part of this campaign walkthrough you’ll get a scope for the breadth of the campaign which includes everything from religious protests, tempting people with money, a Wii game, amazing DM and infomercials for self help guides on how to score your friend’s girlfriend or wife.

If Old Spice is my Cannes pick for a simple idea then Dante’s Inferno gets my vote for coolest intricate campaign… Is there a category for that?

Chatroulette - A video breakdown

Facebook – Old and busted. Chatroulette – New hotness.

Developed by some teen in Russia it randomly pairs people up and if you want, you can chat and if you don’t, just hit the ‘Next’ button. No bells and whistles just plain old video chat but the way people are using it is brilliant. The ‘Next’ button has generated it’s own vernacular. Being ‘Nexted’ is something you have to get used to – if you’re Mr/Miss Normal you’re going to be ‘Nexted’ a lot. But if you do something different (perverted or otherwise) you’ll get noticed. Like these guys, or those guys and hey, why not cut and bag your drugs on Chatroulette.

The openness of it makes it awesome but obviously contentious. It is addictive, as the author of this article describes his experience “I found it both enthralling and distasteful, yet I kept going back for more.”

CNN’s brief overview of Google Buzz and what it’s good for

I guess this week ‘The One’ has to be dedicated to Google Buzz. The funny thing is that I still don’t know what the fuck it’s really supposed to be. I was told yesterday that in the 48hrs from when it launched it was bigger than twitter, in that it had more posts… which just makes you go WTF!

I guess the gist of its workings goes something like this – It takes all your feeds and pushes it through buzz using the base of Gmail users to instantly give it a large number of contributors as well as connections. An instantly identifiable cool bit is Google search – with the power of their search they now have the ability of aggregating what people are looking at/talking about in real-time. This means they now hold the best cards when it comes to analysing current trends which means they compete with the likes of twitter, dig, delicious and Stumbleupon but at the same time using these channels for their content. For those of us in ad-land it means that social marketing just got a whole lot bigger, scarier but will eventually let us build stronger cases to take to clients.

I, like others know it’s important but we just don’t quite know all the ‘whys’ yet.

So… Watch this space.

Berlin Agencies Strike Against Pitching

Berlin Agencies Pitch Strike

10 agencies in Belgium are on strike and have refused to pitch. Agencies include some heavy hitters like Saatchi & Saatchi, JWT and Proximity BBDO. They've all collectively pulled their websites down and have posted a letter that strings together all sites for all the agencies involved. It's only up for a week so I've created this PDF so the letter isn't lost.

Chi City Mayne + Being awesome on youtube

This guy is an inspiration to me because in the world of the interweb user generated content is rife with people hating on others and trying to bring people down. Mr Chi City has always been consistently positive, commenting on everyday shit that happens to him and how he would do what we would only usually think of doing. He’s just a regular blue collar dude who used to have a regular job (he leaves later because he’s making a chunk of change posting vids and selling product.)

My favourite vids show him giving back to the community (make a difference Monday). Thanksgiving he made thanksgiving dinners to give to the homeless. At Christmas he shows stacks of cash (made from his videos) which he gives out in cards to randoms. Simple ideas, but the films are so real. At first showing people a little depressed in the cold-ass snow going about their business to wide-assed smiles that bring a tear to the eye or at least an internally spoken ‘ohhhhhhhh!’

He recently caused controversy posting a video exposing youtube for trying to railroad their best channels amongst other things. He’s not posting videos anymore as he’s made enough money to try other things.
